How to choose a standing desk

Motor count

A single-motor desk drives both legs from one motor. It costs less and handles a laptop and one monitor without complaint. A dual-motor desk gives each leg its own motor, so the top lifts faster, stays level when the weight sits mostly on one side, and carries more. Two or three monitors, or a desktop tower, means dual motor. The E7T and E7Q use three and four motors because they carry much larger tops.

Leg stages

A 2-stage leg has two sections, a 3-stage leg has three. The extra section lets the leg fold up shorter and extend higher, so a 3-stage desk covers a wider range of heights. The difference shows at the bottom of the range, which is where most desks fall short.

The minimum height, not the maximum

Nearly every desk reaches a comfortable standing height. Far fewer come down low enough to sit at properly. The right sitting height puts the desktop at your elbows with your shoulders relaxed and your forearms level. If you are around 5 feet tall, that is below standard desk height, and most desks on the market stop between 700 and 750mm.

Weight capacity

The rating covers the tabletop as well as everything on it, and the top alone is 17 to 26kg depending on size. Read the number with that in mind.

Desktop size

120 x 75cm suits a laptop and a single monitor. 150 x 75cm is the common office choice and fits dual monitors comfortably. 180 x 75cm suits a triple monitor setup. For meeting tables and bench layouts, look at the L-shape E7T and the 4-leg E7Q. All our tops are 25mm MFC with cable grommets pre-cut.

The E7T is an L-shape desk and the E7Q Odin is a four-leg meeting table, so both take much larger tabletops than a single-person desk. The E7T comes in 150 × 150cm or 180 × 150cm, and the E7Q in 210 × 90cm or 240 × 90cm.
